Lifecycle Policy - TufinOS

Overview

TufinOS is a hardened distribution of Rocky Linux (TufinOS 4.x). All Tufin appliances come pre-installed with TufinOS, which is the only supported operating system for Tufin appliances. TufinOS is also supported on VMware and is available as an AWS AMI.

The TufinOS lifecycle consists of new releases with major versions and minor versions.

  • Release: Delivered according to the lifecycle of the Linux operating system it is based on.

  • Major version: Provides the following:

    • Latest security updates

    • Third-party packages relevant to TufinOS

    • New configuration capabilities (if required)

    • Additional packages required for new TOS features

  • Minor version: Issued to address a specific issue, such as a critical security vulnerability.

Be aware of the TufinOS lifecycle and make sure you are running a supported version of the product before installing and updating TOS.

Product naming convention

You can tell which phase the product is in according to the naming convention of the version you are currently running: TufinOS R.VV

  • R = Release

  • VV = The version number. Numbers ending in 0 indicate a major version. All others are minor versions.

Examples: TufinOS 4.50 is a major version of TufinOS 4. TufinOS 3.81 is a minor version of TufinOS 3.

Release schedule

Major TufinOS versions generally align with the TOS release schedule, meaning that there will be a new major TufinOS version available with each TOS GA, and sometimes even more frequently than that. However, regardless of TOS releases, Tufin guarantees a minimum of two major TufinOS versions per year.

Minor TufinOS versions are issued as necessary to address specific issues and deliver critical security fixes.

TufinOS releases closely follow the lifecycle of the Linux operating system they are built upon. As the Linux operating system approaches its end-of-life (EOL), Tufin delivers a new release of TufinOS based on a more recent Linux operating system.

End of support policy

Tufin will announce the end of life for a TufinOS release around a year before the end of life (EOL) date of the relevant Linux operating system to allow customers to plan the migration to the new TufinOS release. These announcements will be sent out through the Keep Me Up To Date mailing list.

After the EOL announcement, there will be one more major version before the TufinOS release officially ends. Critical minor versions will continue to be released as necessary for a limited period.

If you encounter a bug in an EOL release or major version, you will be required to update to a supported TufinOS.

Installation/Update policy

Major TufinOS versions are available as clean installations on new machines (Tufin appliances and VMware). You can also update existing machines to the new TufinOS version. Direct update is supported for the previous three major versions. For example, if you have TufinOS 4.20, you will be able to update to TufinOS 4.30, 4.40 and 4.50 as well as the associated minor versions.

If there is no direct update path, you will need to update TufinOS to one of the previous three supported major versions. Updating TufinOS may require updating TOS as well.

Minor versions are only available as updates for existing machines, and direct updates are supported only for the previous three major versions.

New TufinOS releases (for example, from TufinOS 3 to 4) are infrequent, and they require reinstalling TufinOS on the server.

Tufin only supports the packages that come pre-installed with TufinOS. You cannot install additional software as that may affect TOS capabilities.
